We Start In The Morning! Updated

Our first student begins bright and early tomorrow (Tuesday) morning! Yippie!!

We have 4 more spots left--that's right, 5 kids total.

Strawberries are planted along with tomatoes, lettuce and herbs. More to come, but I need some young gardeners to help me!

We have tricycles  and a playhouse, and the alphabet is up on the wall. We have Duplos and blocks, paint and easels, paper, markers (washable!), crayons and some fresh fruit for snacking on. And, I admit, there is some bacon here. The sandbox was late, but we will fill it up with sand this weekend!

I added a new page to this blog with some pictures of the garden. Check it out!

The chickens are coming. I have a guy who can build anything waiting for chicken coop marching orders, and as soon as we find some reclaimed wood to use (recycle!!) he will build it!

Can't wait for tomorrow!

The Pace Is Picking Up

This Saturday morning (4/20) the soil will arrive.

It will be dumped in a large pile and then it must be moved to the boxes.

This will require wheelbarrows and shovels. I have 1 wheelbarrow and 2 shovels.

If you're bored Saturday morning and feel like doing really hard work for no pay, and you have to bring your own wheelbarrow and shovel, please feel free to stop by!

It should look something like this: It looks like this, cuz this is it:

Redwood Planter Boxes: Built!

There they are. The big one in the back and the one on the right in front are 3 boards tall, the others are 2 boards tall. The picture on the bottom shows the nice, neat, clean cuts I was able to make with the miter saw. If only I could have done all the work on a workbench, but, lo, I don't have one. Squatting worked, but now I ache! I will build one soon.

I will get some dirt tomorrow. I will begin planting as soon as I can!

There will be tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, beets, strawberries, herbs, melons, squash and who knows what else!

We will be ready for the May 1st Grand Opening!

May 1st Grand Opening

Murphy's Law came into play yesterday.

The Department of Social Services representative who was supposed to come out to do the final inspection broke her arm. She won't be here for a couple more weeks.

The saddest part of this development is not so much the delay, but the fact that the DSS has to put things on hold due to one employee being out with a health issue. That is an indication of our funding priorities. I would love to see a DSS that can cope with an employee or 2 being out for health reasons.

So, I hope she heals well and soon, and I hope the DSS doesn't suffer too much from her absence during the next couple weeks.

I can safely say we will be open for business on May 1.

And, thanks to those nice folks who have bought things for the school to make it a great place for kids. I don't know who you are, but you're awesome!
